When I moved to rural Manitoba, I fretted that I would be spending my days on a flat, barren, and I'm sorry folks, ugly prairie. I consoled myself by thinking that if it was unbearable I could pack up the Pathfinder and head to the Rockies. Was I wrong about Manitoba! I was delighted to discover that, contrary to my biased belief, the prairie is beautiful. If you have ever had the opportunity to see a thunderstorm on the prairie you know what I mean. The sky goes on forever. Some of Manitoba is prairie but much of the province is comprised of forests and lakes. Northern Manitoba is an incredible, uninhabited, and unspoiled wilderness. You can drive up to Flin Flon or Thompson for glorious camping and fishing trips. Or you can fly- in to magnificent lakes for a once-in-a-life-time experience. Looking for extraordinary experience? Go see the polar bears and beluga whales at Churchill. For the really adventurous, a canoe trip down the Pigeon River in the south or the Seal River in the north may well be in order! One thing for sure, the Northern Lights will blow you away!
